Media: Painting and Digital Media

My work generally alternates between real world projects and digital media. On one hand, I enjoy working digitally because of the immediacy that the medium provides. A multitude of colors, brushes and textures are a click away.

With digital, everything can be manipulated. I have an opportunity to take bigger chances with a piece because any changes I make can easily be undone. I find this way of working very freeing.

On the other hand, there is no substitution for using paint on a canvas to create an image that speaks to the viewer. There is something satisfying about physically creating something tangible.

Lately, I have been melding these two approaches to my work into one. Things that I have created in the real world get transferred into the digital one, where I can continue to work on it and publish it throughout the web.

As for the subjects of my work, I think that simple imagery has the ability to deal with serious subject matter. By taking something out of its real world context, you can deal more with ideas instead of specific situations that carry real world baggage. The simpler the image, the more universal it is.

Sometimes, I just paint what's fun.
